What usually goes wrong
Most washing machine calls come down to one of these.
- Water not draining out
- The drum will not spin
- Stops part way through a cycle
- Loud banging or the machine walking across the floor
- Water leaking from underneath
- The door will not unlock
- An error code on the panel
Top load and front load
Top load machines are simpler and their faults tend to sit in the drain pump, the belt or the timer. Front load machines add a door lock, a shock absorber set and a control board, and they are far less forgiving of an unbalanced load or a blocked filter.
Two things worth checking first
Before booking anything: check the drain filter, usually behind a small hatch at the front bottom, and make sure the machine is level and not resting on a loose tile. Those two account for a surprising share of complaints.

The machine shows an error code. What does it mean?
Codes are brand specific. Send us the code along with the make and model and we can usually tell you what it points to.
It vibrates violently on spin.
Often an unbalanced load or a levelling problem. On front load machines it can also be the shock absorbers or transit bolts left in after delivery.
Do you repair the control board?
Sometimes. Tell us the make, model and code, and we will let you know whether it is a repair or a replacement.
Is it repaired at home?
Usually. If a machine needs to come to the shop, we will tell you before moving it.
